Johnson County finishes KJCCC D-II play unbeaten

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County mem's basketball team, now ranked ninth in the NJCAA D-II Poll, rolled to a perfect 14-0 record in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Division II play and hold the No. 1 seed in 2025 Region 6 Basketball Championship.

This is second time in program history the Cavaliers have been perfect in conference play. The 2017-18 men's squad finished 8-0 in the conference but finished 17-14 overall. This year's team stands 27-3, second only the 27-2 mark by the 1973-74 team.

Sophomore guard Steven Samuels paced the Cavaliers with a season-high 23 points on 9-of-15 shooting including 4-of-7 from 3- point range. He was one of our JCCC players to post double digits scoring.

Freshman guard Gavin Harvey followed with 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting, and he dished out eight assists to up his season total to a league-best 154.

Freshman forward Tavian Cruse and sophomore forward Brandon Mann each registered a double-double. Cruse posted 12 points and 11 rebounds, Mann finished with 10 points and 10 boards.

Freshman guard Joey Robinson was one shy of double figures with points and five rebounds, and sophomore forward Traeger Rader the Cavaliers' bench with eight points.

The Larks, who playing their final season as a two-year program, were led by Trent Thompson with 21 points followed by John Probey with 16.

With the series ending, the Cavaliers finished 56-9 all-time against Hesston, winning the final 15 meetings.

The 2025 Region 6 Tournament begins with quarterfinal action on Monday, March 3 with the top four seeds earning home court advantage. The Cavaliers will host No. 8 seed Labette (8-22/2-12)with the opening tip scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

The four quarterfinal winners advance to the semifinal round on Friday, March 7 at Johnson County Community College with the championship game set for Saturday, March 8.
