
HARRIMAN, TN – No. 14 Walters State completed the series sweep over Roane State on Friday afternoon, picking up 16-2 and 9-3 wins over the Raiders.
With the wins, the Senators improved to 23-5-1 overall and 11-4 in TCCAA play.
GAME ONE: No. 14 Walters State 16, Roane State 2 (5 Innings)
In game one, the Senators smacked six home runs in the five-inning win.
Atticus Goodson, Tyler Myatt, Holden Pantier, Justin Bell, Carson Cabbage and Taylor Harris all homered in the game. Harris and Jack Torbett drove in three runs each in the game, while Goodson, Myatt and Cabbage had two RBIs apiece.
On the mound, Aiden Robertson (6-1) got the start and threw five innings. Robertson allowed one run on three hits and struck out 10. Robertson leads the country in strikeouts with 63 and has a ridiculous 15.19 strikeouts per nine innings.
Ryan Smith replaced Robertson in the sixth and threw the final inning, allowing one run on one hit while striking out two.
The Senators got on the board first in the game with four runs in the second. Walker Morgan got things going with an RBI single, and Cabbage made it 3-0 with a two-run bomb. The final run came on an RBI triple by Kole Fenton that scored Harris.
In the third, the Senators added four more runs as Myatt smacked a two-run home run, Torbett doubled home Cabbage and Harris doubled in Torbett to make it 8-0. Pantier smacked a solo home run in the fifth to make it 9-0, but Roane State got on the board with a run in the bottom half of the inning.
The Senators closed things out in the sixth with seven more runs as Goodson hit a pinch-hit two-run home run, Bell hit a pinch-hit home run, Torbett doubled to score two and Harris smacked a two-run home run that made it 16-1. Roane scored a run in the bottom half, but that was all.
GAME TWO: No. 14 Walters State 9, Roane State 3
In game two, the Senators scored nine runs on nine hits and picked up the sweep.
At the plate, Jack Vogele and Nate Conner each homered. Vogele drove in three runs, as did Pantier.
On the mound, Tyler Welch (5-0) got the start and threw four innings. Welch allowed two runs on five hits while striking out four. Brady Scott replaced Welch in the fifth and threw a scoreless inning, before Jace Kirby pitched the sixth. Kirby allowed an unearned run on two hits while striking out two. Matthew Porchas relieved Kirby in the seventh and struck out the side to end the game.
Following a run in the first for the Senators on a groundout by Vogele that scored Conner, Conner and Vogele teamed up in the third to hit back-to-back solo home runs that made it 3-0. Vogele drove in another run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly, and Myatt singled home a run after to make it 5-0. Walters State scored two more runs in the inning, as Pantier hit an RBI single and Morgan smacked an RBI single to make it 7-0.
Roane State got on the board in the fourth with two runs, but Pantier doubled home two in the sixth to make it 9-2. Roane scored one more in the bottom of the sixth, but that was all.
