Roadrunners Basketball Falls on Homecoming
The State Fair Community College (SFCC) basketball team lost a 62-53 Region 16 and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference game to Mineral Area College inside at home on Saturday, Feb. 22.

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) basketball team lost a 62-53 Region 16 and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference game to Mineral Area College at home on Saturday, Feb. 22. The game featured eight lead changes and two ties.
Mineral Area had an 18-12 lead with 11 minutes and 44 seconds remaining in the opening half. The Roadrunners trimmed the deficit to 22-21 with about seven minutes remaining until halftime courtesy of a basket from sophomore forward Sam Bradford of Houston, Texas.
The Roadrunners (16-11, 2-8 in Region 16) took a 27-24 lead with four minutes and 37 seconds remaining until halftime. SFCC pushed the advantage to 31-26. The Roadrunners started the second half well as they pushed the advantage to 39-29 with 16 minutes and 50 seconds remaining in the second half. The 10-point advantage was the largest lead by either team in the contest.
Mineral Area refused to go away, as the SFCC lead was cut to four points at 46-42 with just under eight minutes remaining.
Mineral Area would take a 50-46 lead with four minutes and 15 seconds remaining. The Roadrunners tried to fight back, but Mineral Area made the plays down the stretch to hang on for the victory.
Bradford led SFCC with 20 points. Bradford also tied for the team lead in rebounds with six along with freshman forward Malick Ndiaye of Arlington, Texas. Sophomore guard Alex Gunnels of Kansas City, Missouri dished out a team-high three assists in the game.
"We were up by 10 points, but when you're not making shots, you have to rebound the basketball," said Roadrunners head coach Matt Brown. "Mineral Area did, and we didn't."
