Lady Warriors Split With John A Logan

It was a beautiful day for softball at Paul Schnarre Field on the campus of Wabash Valley College. The Lady Warriors were looking to start the conference season off with a home sweep of John A Logan, but unfortunately split games on the day, going 1-1. 

In game one, Alexis Tucker was locked in on the bump and only needed 11 pitches to get out of the first inning. Tucker held the Volunteers scoreless into the 6th. John A Logan used a two out RBI triple to take the lead, 1-0. Logan held Wabash scoreless in the home half of the inning. In the top of the seventh, the Volunteers extended the lead with a solo homerun, making it a 2-0 game going into the bottom of the seventh. Freshman Mara Serafini led off the inning the Lady Warriors and reached on an error. The following batter struckout, which brought EmmaLee Higgs up with one out. Higgs singled to centerfield, while Emma Banks got on base via a fielders choice. With the bases loaded and one out, Natalie Brockett struck out for out number two. During the at bat, Scholtz threw a wild pitch. On the wild pitch, Serafini scored from third, and Higgs scored from second and Banks moved up to second on the pitch. On the slide at the plate, Higgs knocked the ball out of the catchers glove to tie the game at two. Down to their final out of game one, the Lady Warriors hope fell into the bat of Easton Wampler. Wampler, was looking to get out of her slump in game one, as she was 0-3. With two outs and a full count, Wampler stepped back into the box. The next pitch, she doubled to centerfield and Banks scored from second. The Lady Warriors walked off John A Logan 3-2 in game one.

Tucker finished with 12 strikeouts.

In game two, the Lady Warriors jumped out to an early 2-0 in the bottom of the first, They tallied another run in the bottom of the third to make it 3-0. John A Logan brought one across in the top of the fourth to make it 3-1, but Wabash responded with two of their own. The Lady Warriors headed to the top of the fifth, winning 5-1. In the top of the fifth, it became all John A Logan. The Volunteers plated two runs, to make it 5-3. Logan plated another two runs in the sixth and two in the seventh, while holding Wabash scoreless from the fifth on. The Volunteers took game two by a final of 7-5.
