JCCC splits doubleheader with Iowa Western on Sunday, but still win series

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The No. 22-ranked Johnson County split the final two games of the series against No. 14 Iowa Western on Sunday afternoon at the JCCC Baseball Complex but still came away with their second straight series win.

The Reivers won the opener 10-9 holding off a seventh inning rally by the Cavaliers but could not stop JCCC's rally in the second game, as Johnson County roared back from a 5-1 deficit in the bottom of the seventh for a 7-5 victory.

Leadoff hitter Jake McClure led JCCC with three singles and three RBI in the opener. Catcher Miken Miller had a single, double and RBI and first baseman Easton Roe drove in two runs.

Johnson County also got single RBIs rom third baseman Briggs Roe, shortstop Chris Mancinas and designated hitter Jeremy Comer.

In the second game, Roe collected two RBI along with third baseman Carter Kelley. McClure, Miller and Mancinas each drove in one run.

Right-hander Denton Biller got the start and allowed four runs off six hits with six strikeouts over 5.2 innings pitched. Left-hander Ashton Hartwig pitched the final two innings striking out five batters while not allowing a hit.

The Cavaliers open conference play on Thursday, March 6 when they host the Allen Red Devils. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
