Pioneers Win at Home

FORT PIERCE, FL- Indian River State College blasted their way past Palm Beach State 13-5 in seven innings, with the game ending in a mercy rule. This was the highest-scoring game for Indian River this year. The Pioneers improve to 8-1 on the season, bouncing back after Sunday's loss.

Indian River accumulated 19 hits in the game. Maikol Lucena and Jake Weatherspoon were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected four hits for Indian River. This has been a common theme for these two sophomores, as both are in the top five in hitting for the state of Florida. The scoring came in bunches for the Pioneers, as they scored in every inning but two. A five-run second inning was highlighted by a Jake Weatherspoon home run, his first of the year.

Sean Duffin, Rocco Depastino, and Matt Lashely each had multiple hits for the Pioneers. Sandy Rosario hit his first career home run, and Jacob Souza collected his first career hit.

Four different Pioneers took the mound this Wednesday, February 5 with Javi Miranda getting the start and his second win of the year. Jonathan Wolaver, Brian Ehlrich, and Dane Rossi combined to throw five innings, allowing five runs and striking out three to finish the game. The Pioneers continue to be strong on the mound as they carry a 1.64 ERA, which is currently ranked number one in the state of Florida.

The Pioneers will be back in action this Friday, February 7 at Mike Easom Field against TNXL.
