Lady Eagles Soar on Sophomore Night with 88-77 Win Over Co-Lin

MERIDIAN, Miss. – The Meridian Community College Lady Eagles made their Sophomore Night one to remember, securing an 88-77 victory over Copiah-Lincoln Community College on Thursday night in Graham Gymnasium. The win improves MCC to 15-13 overall and 7-6 in conference play as they prepare to close out the regular season.

The Lady Eagles came out strong, outscoring Co-Lin 15-6 to open the game and ending the first quarter with a 19-11 lead. Early in the second quarter, MCC extended its advantage to double digits before Co-Lin battled back, cutting the deficit to just one point (27-26). However, sophomore Annearrea Ducksworth provided a crucial momentum shift, knocking down back-to-back three-pointers to help the Lady Eagles take a 39-31 lead into halftime.

Co-Lin came out firing in the third quarter, starting with a 7-0 run and eventually taking a 42-41 lead at the 7:36 mark. The game remained tightly contested, with multiple lead changes and back-and-forth action throughout the quarter. At the end of the third, Co-Lin held a narrow 59-57 advantage.

The fourth quarter was just as intense, with the teams tied at 70 with 4:30 remaining. The Lady Eagles responded in a big way, reclaiming the lead at 74-72 with just over three minutes to play. From there, MCC began to pull away, stretching their lead to 80-73 with 1:41 left before closing out the game with a decisive 88-77 victory.

Four Lady Eagles scored in double figures, led by Ducksworth with 21 points. Raven Jones added 16 points, Terica Smith contributed 13 points, while Nataysia Willis finished with 11 in the winning effort.

With this victory, the Lady Eagles turn their attention to their final regular-season game on Monday, March 3, as they travel to Scooba, MS, to take on East Mississippi Community College. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
