RedTail Softball Opens Play at The Spring Games

The Hawkeye RedTail Softball Team opened up their week long trip to Florida with two games on Friday, March 14th. The RedTails dropped both, losing to SUNY Adirondack 13-10 and Triton College 8-3.

Game One: 13 (SUNYA), 10 (HCC)

Adirondack started the game with a run scored to go up 1-0 early. They added on three more runs in the top of the third to lead 4-0.

The RedTails bats got going in the bottom of the third when Rylie Devlin started the inning off with a double and scored when Lucy Lebo doubled herself. Mya Chamberlin then drew a walk and Delaney Eickert drew a walk to load the bases. Lebo then scored on a passed ball. The RedTail threat was ended shortly after, putting them behind 4-2.

Adirondack scored two more runs in the top of the fourth.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, The RedTails struck again, scoring from a Jordean Eads walk and Lizzy Hamand double. Chamberlin then singled to advance Hamand to third. Chamberlin then singled to advance Hamand to third, who then scored on a passed ball. Eickert then walked. Emilee Bergmann hit a sacrifice fly to score Chamberlin. Olivia Techam and Devlin both drew walks, but the RedTails couldn't capitalize on the bases loaded opportunity. The score was now 6-5 in favor of Adirondack.

SUNYA added another run to lead by two. They then took a big jump in the top of the seventh, scoring six runs to lead 13-5.

The RedTails showed some fight in the bottom of the seventh. Bergmann started with a walk and advanced to second on a ball in play by Hailey Harbour. Ceyaira Barron then walked. Bergmann scored from a Devlin ball in play. Lebo then loaded the bases with a walk herself. Hamand then hit a base clearing double to make the score 13-9. Chamberlin then hit a triple to score Hamand, getting the final run across the plate for the RedTails before the game finished.

At the plate, Chamberlin led going 3-4 with one run scored, one run batted in, and one walk. Hamand added two hits. On the mound, Adelyn Sienknecht took the loss, going three innings, giving up ten hits, seven runs, four earned, and one strikeout. Eads threw four innings herself, giving up nine hits, six earned runs, one walk, and three strikeouts.


Game Two: 8 (TC), 3 (HCC)

The RedTails got things going in the second inning when Barron hit her first career homerun to score one run.

Triton responded and scored three runs of their own in the bottom of the second, giving them a 3-1 lead.

The Trojans added one more in the bottom of the third.

It was a quiet game until the bottom of the sixth when Triton had a four run inning, giving them a 8-1 advantage.

The RedTails did what they do best and competed in the bottom of the seventh inning. Devlin and Lebo both singled and scored on an Eads double, putting the score to 8-3. The RedTails were unable to score more, giving them the loss.

Lebo led at the plate, going 2-3 with one run scored and one walk. Devlin was also 2-3. On the mound, Chamberlin threw 5.2 innings, giving up ten hits, eight runs, four earned, one walk, and five strikeouts. Courtney Hemsley threw 0.1 innings giving up one walk.

 

Hawkeye moves to 6-12 on the season. The RedTails are back at Hancock Park on Sunday, March 15th to face Parkland Community College and SUNY Niagara at 2:00 and 4:15 PM EST. respectively.
