Jamestown Fights Back but Can't Overcome Deficit in Loss to Lakeland

JAMESTOWN, NY - It wasn't for a lack of effort, but the Jamestown Community College (JCC) men's basketball team dropped its eighth straight game, this one 87-83 to Lakeland Community College.

Jamestown grabbed an early lead, thanks in large part to freshman Tamir Barrant, who knocked down a corner three to give JCC a 14-12 lead six minutes into the game. Barrant led all scorers with 31 points, adding 11 rebounds.

Lakeland came right back to reclaim the lead, 19-18, midway through the opening half.

Another three, this one from Italian Federico Foddai, snatched the edge right back. He finished the game with 15 points, all coming from beyond the arc.

JCC's last lead came at the 6:07 mark on another bucket from Barrant to put the home squad up 29-27.

That's when things started to fall apart as Lakeland closed the half on an 18-4 run to lead 47-31 at the break.

The lead stayed over double digits until five minutes left in the game when two triples from Foddai drew Jamestown back to within 74-65.

JCC would finish strong, but it wasn't enough as they drop another tough test 87-83.

The loss moves Jamestown to 4-16 on the season.

Jamestown starts league play on Saturday as they travel to Erie Community College for a 3:00 PM tip.
