Bears improve school record winning streak to 12 with blowout victory of SUSLA Jags

This afternoon, the Baton Rouge Bears faced off against the Southern Shreveport Jags at Northwood High School in an LCCAC matchup. The Bears extended their school record winning streak to 12 games with a commanding 91-60 victory over the Jags. With this win, the Bears completed their conference schedule with an undefeated 6-0 record.
The Bears started the game strong, quickly establishing an 11-5 lead after just four minutes of play. Their defensive pressure proved disruptive for the Jags, causing significant difficulties on the offensive end. Key contributions from the Bears' bench helped increase their lead to ten points at 21-11 with ten minutes left in the half. Baton Rouge's deep bench wore down the Jags, who were outscored 34-10 in the final ten minutes of the first half, leaving the Bears with a significant 55-21 lead at halftime.
The second half mirrored the first, with the Bears dominating both offense and defense. In the first ten minutes of the half, they extended their lead to as much as 39 points, leading 68-27. Baton Rouge continued to rotate players, ensuring that everyone who dressed for the game saw action in the second half. Although the Jags outscored the Bears 39-36 in the latter period, Baton Rouge ultimately triumphed with a final score of 91-60.
Kialen Phillips led the Bears in scoring with 20 points, while Imran Deen was the only other player to score in double figures, contributing 12 points. Latrell Holly Jr. led the Jags with a game-high 28 points.
With this victory, the Bears improved to 18-8 overall and 6-0 in conference play, while the Jags fell to 9-11 and 1-4 on the season. Southern Shreveport still leads the all-time series against Baton Rouge with 24 wins to 22 losses.

Tonight's win brings the Bears' total to 18 victories this season, setting a new program record for wins in a single season. The previous record was 17 wins, achieved in both the 2009-10 and 2016-17 seasons. Additionally, this 6-0 conference record marks the first time in program history the Bears have finished a conference season undefeated. Previously, their best conference record was 7-1 during the 2012-13 season in the Miss/Lou Conference.
The Bears will conclude the regular season on Wednesday, February 26, when they host the Louisiana Knights at 7:30 PM in the Bonne Sante Wellness Center.
