Men's Basketball Win Over Independence
Fort Hays Tech Northwest men's basketball won over the Independence Pirates on Saturday in a dominant performance, 114-94.
The Tigers started strong, surging to a 17-3 lead within the first four minutes. Indy would eventually get their offense going, pulling the game back to within 11 points, however, they would be unable to find an answer to Tech's scoring. Chase Harris was unstoppable in the first half, scoring 28 points as the Tigers extended their lead past a 20-point lead. The halftime score reflected their commanding performance, with Tech leading 62-37.
Independence would waste no time getting to work in the second half, as they worked Tech's defense with strong physicality in the paint. This would force FHNW to call a 30-second timeout less than two minutes into the half to regroup. Indy would continue to attack the rim, as the Tigers struggled to stop them. The Pirates would eventually cut the lead down to 11 points close to the halfway point. Both teams would continue to go back-and-forth with Tech still maintaining a double-digit lead. The Tigers would manage to pull away in the last five minutes, sealing their win, 114-94.
The Tigers finished with four players in double figures, with Chase Harris breaking the single-game scoring record with 41 points. Marquintez Dixon would also have a good game, totaling 16 points and 9 rebounds.
Fort Hays Tech Northwest will compete next at Coffeyville Community College on Thursday.
