Lady Pats Get the Sweep on Opening Day

The College of Central Florida Softball team opened up their season on Friday, January 24th with two victories in the JUCO Kickoff Classic in Madeira Beach, FL.

Game 1: 6-2 vs Gulf Coast State

The Pats got off to an early lead in their first game of the season when Madison VanAllen singled in both Amy Crosby and Amber Amber Daugherty in the bottom of the first inning. In the second inning they added two more runs to take a 4-0 lead. Crosby doubled to score Hayley Turner and Leah Clark drove in Crosby with a single to left. The Pats added two more in the 6th with a sac fly by Riley Geiger and a ground out RBI by Turner. VanAllen also got it done in the circle for the Pats. She threw four and two thirds innings allowing two runs, zero earned, on six hits while striking out four and walking three. Hailey Pyle closed out the game striking out two and only allowed one hit.

Game 2: 9-1 vs Polk State

Polk State got off to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second and then it was all Pats offense from there. They had 7 extra base hits in the game: Amy Crosby had two doubles and a triple going 4 for 4, Caitlin Blankenship had a double and a triple going 2 for 4, Gabrielle Rasher went 2 for 4 with a double and Raegan Geiger was 2 for 3 with a double. Hailey Pyle threw for the Pats and only allowed the one run in the second while striking out four.

The Lady Pats get Saturday off and will return to Madeira Beach for two more games on Sunday vs the USAF Academy at 9 am and Rend Lake College at 2 pm.
