CEDAR RAPIDS - The NIACC baseball team opened its ICCAC with a doubleheader loss to No. 19 (NJCAA Division II) Kirkwood.
Kirkwood won the first game 5-3 and completed the sweep with a 19-9 victory in the second game.
In the opener, Kirkwood (17-8 overall, 2-0 in the ICCAC) scored three runs in the fourth inning and plated two runs in the sixth frame. The Trojans scored their three runs in the fifth inning on a three-run homer from sophomore Payton Fort.
Ryan Coffman was 2 for 3 and scored a run for the Trojans. Lincoln Becker, George McIntyre, Cody Haynes also had hits for the Trojans.
In the second game, the Eagles scored in five of their seven at-bats, including eight runs in the seventh inning.
NIACC scored single runs in the first two innings, scored five runs in the sixth frame and pushed across two runs in the seventh inning.
Haynes was 3 for 4, including two doubles, with an RBI and scored a run. McIntyre hit his fifth home runs of the season and Jacob Neutz homered for the first time this season.
NIACC's Jack McDonough was 2 for 4 with three RBIs.
NIACC (7-14, 0-2) returns to action Saturday and Sunday in a three-game series against fifth-ranked Southeastern CC (16-6, 1-0).
