Miami Dade’s Season Ends After Tough 10-8 Loss to Gulf Coast State
Miami Dade College's baseball season came to a close after a heartbreaking 10-8 loss to Gulf Coast State College. In a game filled with momentum swings, the Sharks battled hard, showing the same fight and fire that had carried them all season, but ultimately couldn't hold off Gulf Coast's late-inning comeback.
The Sharks came out strong, with Michael Petite launching a solo home run in the first inning and Santiago Carriles-Alvarado adding an RBI double to give Miami Dade an early lead. Cian Copeland's solo shot in the third extended the advantage, but Gulf Coast responded quickly, plating three runs in the bottom half to tie the game.
Miami Dade regained control with a big fourth inning, highlighted by Talan Beckford's three-run home run. Later in the sixth, back-to-back blasts by William Polanco and Carriles gave the Sharks an 8-6 lead, and momentum seemed firmly on their side. Altogether, Miami Dade crushed five home runs in the game, a testament to their offensive firepower.
However, Gulf Coast steadily chipped away, scoring one run in the sixth, two more in the seventh to tie it, and taking the lead for good in the eighth. Despite 11 hits and an aggressive approach at the plate, Miami Dade couldn't manufacture a late rally. Defensively, the Sharks committed two errors that Gulf Coast capitalized on, while five different pitchers rotated through the mound to try to slow the Commodores' attack.
Matt Thorsen was tagged with the loss for Miami Dade, while Jacob Price picked up the win for Gulf Coast. Michael Petite (1-for-3, HR, RBI, 3 BB), Cian Copeland (1-for-4, HR, RBI, 2 BB), and Santiago Carriles-Alvarado (2-for-4, HR, 2 RBI) were among the offensive standouts for Miami Dade.
It was a tough finish to the season for the Sharks, who showed tremendous resilience and firepower, but ultimately fell just short in a back-and-forth battle. Despite the loss, the team's fight and spirit were evident until the final pitch.
