Apaches Dominate Angelina on Sophomore Day

The TJC Apaches delivered a commanding performance on the court, routing Angelina 71-43 in a decisive victory. From the opening tip, TJC showed their dominance, holding the Lady Roadrunners to just 43 points while scoring efficiently on the offensive end.

First Half: Apaches Take Control Early

The Apaches wasted no time establishing their superiority, jumping out to a 16-9 lead by the end of the first quarter. TJC's defense was suffocating, limiting Angelina to just 9 points in the opening period. The Apaches held their opponents to a dismal 23.8% shooting from the field in the first half, forcing 12 turnovers and staying aggressive on both ends of the court.

In the second quarter, TJC continued to build their lead, outscoring Angelina 18-8. The Apaches' offense was well-balanced, with four different players contributing to the scoring. TJC's shooting percentage also soared, as they hit 53.8% of their shots in the second period, finishing the half with a commanding 34-17 lead.

Second Half: Apaches Cruise to Victory

TJC kept their foot on the gas pedal in the second half. The third quarter was especially dominant, as the Apaches expanded their lead with a 22-point effort, while holding Angelina to just 10 points. With the game well in hand, the Apaches took their largest lead of the game, 56-27, going into the final quarter.

Despite a late push from Angelina, who managed 16 points in the fourth quarter, the Apaches' lead was insurmountable. TJC continued to execute offensively, finishing the game strong with 15 more points in the final period, securing a 71-43 victory.

Key Performances:

  • Grace Ezebilo was a standout for TJC, leading the team with 14 points, 13 rebounds, and 4 assists. Her presence on both ends of the floor was key in the Apaches' dominance.
  • Kyra Anderson also impressed with 14 points and 18 rebounds, controlling the glass and providing a strong second option offensively.
  • Fenishka Bertho contributed 13 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists, showcasing her all-around playmaking ability.
  • Da'Lonna Choice was solid with 6 points and 5 assists, running the offense and setting up her teammates for easy opportunities.

With the regional tournament fast approaching, starting on March 12th at Lee College, the Apaches are ramping up their preparation. This dominant win gives the team a confidence boost as they head into the postseason, with their defense and offensive balance on full display. But before the tournament, the Apaches will finish their regular season with an away game at Kilgore this Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. They will look to close out their regular season strong before shifting focus to the postseason.
