
McHenry, MD – Brylee Wetzel and Elizabeth Pryor each scored 16 points and Hannah Ault added 15 Saturday afternoon as visiting Potomac State College of West Virginia University handed cold-shooting Garrett College a 72-69 women's basketball loss.
Pryor posted a double-double, pulling down 14 rebounds, as PSC improved to 7-3 overall and 2-1 in NJCAA Division II Region 20. The Catamounts also benefited from Amber Bing's nine points and team-high four assists.
The Lady Lakers shot just 33 percent from the field, including 29 percent from the 3-point line.
"We missed a lot of open shots," acknowledged GC head coach JT Lewis, who indicated he still "liked the way we played."
"We kind of had to switch up the way we played," explained Lewis, whose squad is still missing sophomore point guard Renee Timbers, who is out with an ankle injury. "We subbed a lot more people, did a lot more pressing, just trying out a new look. I think with our young team, we need to start tiring out our opponents."
Even with their shooting woes, the Lady Lakers managed to build a 15-point, second-half lead before wilting down the stretch.
"They hit a couple of back-to-back 3-pointers and then really started to heat up in the fourth quarter," Lewis said of the Catamounts.
Manuela Perez de Castro scoring a game-high 19 points and pulled down a team-high nine rebounds for the Lady Lakers (5-3, 2-1). Da'shai Morton-Hall added 15 points and three assists, while Hailey Newsome (eight rebounds, three steals) and Janiya Burton (four assists) each scored 13 points.
GC's Rhegan Lamberson chipped in with six points, six rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
The Lady Lakers are off until January 8th, when they start a critical, five-game road trip at Community College of Baltimore County Catonsville. The Cardinals defeated GC, 49-36, in last season's region semifinals.

Hagerstown, MD – Amelia Robbins scored a game-high 31 points and passed out 11 assists last Monday as the Hawks defeated visiting Garrett College.
Da'shai Morton-Hall (five rebounds, five assists, three steals) scored a team-high 16 points for the Lady Lakers. Hailey Newsome (seven rebounds, four assists) scored 13 points while Manuela Perez de Castro added 12 points for GC.
