Men's Hoops defeats NCMC.
Jayhawks pick up big road win.
The Muskegon Jayhawks narrowly defeated the North Central Michigan College Timberwolves 61-56 in conference play. The Jayhawks looked a little sluggish following tip-off and the Timberwolves produced a 10-1 run in the first three minutes of play. Neither team could produce consistent offense in the first half, and the Jayhawks went to the locker room with a 29-23 lead thanks to their team defense.
The second half was similar, but interior scoring from the Timberwolves and a clutch three pointer had North Central trailing the Jayhawks 57-54 with just 46 seconds left to play. The Jayhawks used much of the 30 second shot clock on offense next possession, and with just 23 seconds left the 5'9" sophomore guard Kevon Washington pulled down a crucial offensive rebound and put it back in for the Jayhawks, putting the game out of reach. The win moves the Jayhawks record to 10-8 and 3-1 in conference play. Freshman forward Ny'Zhem Marshall led Muskegon with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Sophomore Joe Russau finished with 11 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore Will Chye added 11 points and four steals. The Jayhawks next matchup against the Mid Michigan Lakers at Mid Michigan College on Wednesday, January 29th at 7:30 PM.
