Falcons Outpace River in High-Scoring Battle

Falcons Outpace River in High-Scoring Battle

FORT PIERCE, FL - It was a tough loss for the Indian River State College men's basketball team, who dropped a high-scoring affair to Daytona State College, 101-78. After a competitive first half that saw them trailing by 11, the River were unable to maintain their momentum in the second half as Daytona State's depth and fast-paced play ultimately overwhelmed them.

Despite the 43-54 halftime deficit, the River had stayed in the game. They displayed resilience and offensive firepower in the opening 20 minutes, made key shots, and played solid team basketball. While Daytona State's up-tempo style posed challenges, Indian River matched the intensity and limited turnovers, keeping themselves within striking distance. Heading into halftime, the River had felt confident that with some adjustments, they could close the gap in the second half.

However, Daytona State came out with even more energy and quickly stretched their lead, capitalizing on a string of turnovers by the River. Indian River struggled to get stops, and the Falcons' shooters found a rhythm, knocking down three-pointers and driving to the basket with ease. The River had made a spirited comeback, cutting the lead to just four points at one stage. But as the pace of the game continued to favor Daytona State, Indian River found it increasingly difficult to contain their opponent's transition play. The Falcons pulled away steadily, and the deficit grew too large to overcome.

Key Player Stats:

With a few strategic adjustments, Indian River will aim to regroup and bounce back in their next matchup. The team remains confident that their dedication and growing chemistry will prepare them to take on any opponent. Their next matchup is scheduled for Wednesday, January 8, at 5 p.m. against Miami Dade College at home.
