Suns Stumble in District Semifinals Setback to Joliet JC

DALLAS – Dallas College Cedar Valley women's basketball team fell to Joliet Junior College 69-60 in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Central District semifinals Friday at Dallas College Richland.

Fourth-seeded Joliet (15-13) advances to Saturday's 1 p.m. championship game against third-seeded Dallas College Mountain View (11-13) in a game to air on TSBN Network.

Cedar Valley finished the season 10-12.

Kamryn Williams had 19 points and 10 boards, Cyncere McDonald 11 points, seven rebounds, nine assists and three steals, and Vivian Nwabufo eight points and seven boards in her final game in a Suns uniform. Joliet's Jazlynn Foster had 23 points, and Kiyah Robertson 19.

The Suns were outscored 21-5 in the third quarter.

Foster scored off glass at the 7:06 mark in the fourth quarter to put the Wolves up nine. Nwabufo hit a spinning layup for a three-point play with 6:33 to go to pull Cedar Valley within six. Foster answered with a 3 to extend the lead to 11 before Williams converted a three-point play. Demi Page's driving layup with 3:35 on the clock pushed Joliet back to an 11-point lead. Foster scored on a runout to make it 65-52.

McDonald's bucket after Kyla To's steal and Williams bucket on a feed over the top from To from the sidelines out of a timeout with 1:09 to go cut it to nine. But the Wolves held on to advance.

It was Cedar Valley's third straight 10-win season.
