Lady Senators roll past Southwest Tennessee, 77-26, in TCCAA opener

MORRISTOWN, TN – Walters State held Southwest Tennessee without a point in the opening quarter on Saturday afternoon in their TCCAA opener, going on for a 77-26 win.

With the victory, the Lady Senators improved to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in TCCAA play. 

"We have to continue to grow up and keep our minds focused on the game, while also having fun," Walters State coach Jasmin Coleman said following the win.

Kyra Perkins led the way for the second straight game, scoring 23 points. The Lady Senators had three more in double figures as Anaya Mulholland-Natt had 13 points, Terryauna Griffin had 12 points and Jahliya McDonald had 11 points. 

Other scorers for Walters State included Raegan Starks with seven, Nyjah Gibbs with four, Alexis Hood with three, Morgan Williams with two and Ellie Linx with two. 

Defensively, the Lady Senators were unbelievable as they held Southwest to 6-46 from the field and 1-12 from 3-point range. Walters State forced 22 turnovers. Southwest Tennessee did not get their first point until the 7:30 mark in the second quarter. 

Things couldn't have started any better for Walters State, scoring 19 points while holding Southwest to zero. Seven Lady Senators scored in the opening 10 minutes, with Griffin leading the way with six.

In the second, Walters State scored 19 more points and led 38-11 at the break. Perkins had 12 points in the second quarter, while McDonald added four. 

The third quarter was the Lady Senators' best offensively, scoring 24 points to grab a 62-14 lead. Perkins had eight more points, while Mulholland-Natt added six. Walters State held Southwest to three points in the quarter.

In the fourth, six players scored for Walters State as they closed out a 77-26 win.
