Friday afternoon, the Marian University Ancilla Women's Basketball team took on the MCCAA Western Division leading Lansing Stars at their home base in Lansing, Michigan. If the Chargers were to somehow defeat the Stars, they would move into a tie for first place in the Western Division. However, following a competitive 17-15 opening quarter, Lansing outscored Marian Ancilla 64-26, with the major influences being shooting and ball security.
Lansing was a hot-shooting 54.4% from the field and 12-22 (54.5%) from behind the arc. The Chargers were only able to muster a 24.1% shot rate, with a 2-14 (14.3%) performance from long range. Additionally, while Marian Ancilla was able to force 17 turnovers, they themselves struggled through 28 gifts of their own to the Stars.
One bright spot for the Chargers was the play of 6-3 Freshman post Jadyn Harris. She was aggressive early, consistent throughout, and led the team in scoring with 9 points on 4-5 shooting. She added 6 rebounds and a pair of assists to her effort.
The Chargers have a quick turn-around, as they play at Grand Rapids Community College today at 1:00 p.m. The Lansing game was originally slated for Wednesday (2/12/25), but it was pushed back due to inclement weather conditions. Grand Rapids enters today's matchup with a 5-5 record in the Western Division, but they played Wednesday, so they've had a couple of extra days to rest and prepare. Please come out and support the Chargers today, if you are able!!
