Jayhawks 2nd Half Too Much for Delta
Anna Lundquist leads MCC with a 23pt 16 reb double double
The Lady Jayhawks hosted the Delta Pioneers at home Wednesday night for their first rematch game of the conference season. Back in January when the Jays traveled to Delta, they ran away with a win of 80-64 so they were hoping to beat Delta for the second time for the 2025 season.
With it being their second matchup, both teams were prepared and more knowledgeable about the aspect of their opponent. The Jayhawks struggled to find a rhythm and make the game flow for them. At halftime, the score was tied at 26-26. The Pioneers showed up wanting a battle and the Jayhawks fought back coming out strong immediately after halftime. Not only for the fans, but for both teams it was a nail-biting game. In the end, it came down to free throws along with a few great "and ones". The Jayhawks beat the Pioneers 64-58.
Top players of the game were Anna Lundquist (#30) with a double double of 23 points, 16 rebounds, and 5 blocks. Tyvi Davis (#23) also with a double double of 19 points, 21 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. Remi Sponseller (#12) with 10 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. And Arrionna Willams (#20) with 8 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block.
"What a hard-fought game tonight." Said head coach Jason Cooper after the game. "Delta had a good defensive plan against us tonight. We also had some self-inflicted wounds, a lot of missed layups and free throws. But hey, I will still take an ugly win over a pretty loss any day."
The Jayhawks travel to Alpena this Saturday and will play @1:00.
