Lakers win the Region 11 Championship

The Lakers traveled to Waterloo today for the Region 11 championship game, against the 2nd seeded Redtails of Hawkeye. Through the full 90 minutes, both teams found the net only one time each. Sophomore Rania Nurr-Mecca was the lone scorer for the Lakers in regulation. After the 90 minutes of regulation concluded, the Redtails and the Lakers went into two 10-minute golden goal periods, to which neither teams defense nor goalkeepers allowed a goal. Moving into penalty kicks, the Lakers freshman Ana Zamorano took the first penalty kick for the Lakers, tying it 1-1. Up next was freshman Balaghni Ines who also netted her PK, tying the score 2-2. Freshman Amelia Kimble added another goal, followed by sophomore Alicia Haughin who netted her kick. Freshman Mahee Montenegro took the final penalty kick for the Lakers and scored it, giving the Lakers the Region 11 championship victory. The Lakers will play the winner of the Region 6/9 final on Saturday November 9th for the North Plains District championship. The winner of the Region 6/9 regional will host.
