The Eastern Florida State College softball team earned a split on the road Thursday afternoon.
The Titans, who are No. 19 in the national poll, beat Santa Fe College in the first game 2-0 and then lost the second game 10-2 in six innings and is now 2-2 in the Citrus Conference.
In Game 1, Avery Velazquez tossed another complete game shutout, allowing just three hits and struck out six and walked three in the victory, her 11th of the season.
The game was scoreless through five innings but in the sixth inning Ashley Corazzini and Ashley Grieser walked and would score Jessica Merk's hit that was dropped in the outfield.
Down 2-0 in the seventh, the Saints put two on but Velazquez struck out the next two and got out of the inning to lock up the win.
Aracelis Jimenez had two of the team's four hits.
In Game 2, the Titans took a lead in the second inning as Martha Jones walked and scored on an error to go up 1-0. They would lead 2-0 in the top of the third inning when Corazzini walked to lead things off. The sophomore second baseman would score on a sacrifice fly by Grieser.
But Santa Fe would tie the game in the bottom of the third inning to tie the game 2-2. They would take the lead in the bottom of the fifth and scored seven times in the bottom of the sixth to end the game.
Emma George had the lone hit in the second game. Luci Walters was solid over five innings, allowing two earned runs and struck out five without walking a hitter.
Eastern Florida State College will host the College of Central Florida on Saturday afternoon. The doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m. at Titan Softball Complex and admission is free. The games will both be shown on WEFS-TV, channel 9 or 455 on Spectrum, 68 on DirecTV, 30 on Dish and 68 on AT&T Uverse. It will also be shown live online at the EFSC Titans YouTube page.
