
The reigning D2 NJCAA Softball National Champions St Johns River State came to the College of Central Florida on Saturday and showed why they are one of the best teams in the country beating the 4th ranked Patriots twice.
Game 1
The Patriots took the lead in the 3rd inning scoring a run on Madison VanAllen's single and another on a passed ball that scored Leah Clark. St Johns River State got one back in the 4th on a sacrifice fly of Patriot starting pitcher VanAllen. The Vikings took the lead in the next inning after the lead off batter reached on an error and the following batter hit a home run to right field making it 3-2. They added another run in the 6th to go up by two. The Patriots pressured in the final inning as they loaded the bases on walks and scored one run on a Clark sac fly, however they remaining runners were stranded and the Pats took their 3rd loss of the year. VanAllen took the loss, throwing five and two-thirds innings. She allowed all four runs, three earned, and had three walks and three strike outs.
Game 2
The Vikings got off to an early lead in the second game by scoring three in the first off Patriot starter Hailey Pyle. That was all the Vikings needed as their starter threw a complete game shutout vs the powerful Patriot offense. She only surrendered four hits and struck out three while not allowing any walks. Patriot left fielder Bailey Holmes was the lone bright spot for the Pats offense going two for three.
The College of Central Florida Patriots (8-4) will look to rebound on Thursday when they travel to Jacksonville to play Florida State College at Jacksonville in a doubleheader starting at 1 PM
