In game one of the doubleheader, the Saints could not get their offense going falling 9-2 to South Florida. The Saints jumped on the board in the top of the first inning scoring two runs, but South Florida took off in the bottom of the first scoring nine straight to knock off the Saints for the second time this season. The Panthers highlighted a four run fourth inning that pushed South Florida to the win.
Ryan Chase was the lone Saint with a multi-hit game, going 2-3 and driving in two on the first inning homerun. The Saints went with Matthew Pagan on the bump. Pagan went 5.0 innings allowing seven hits, eight runs (five earned runs). Pagan walked two batters, while striking out four. Ben Monger took over in the sixth inning, allowing an unearned run, while walking one.
In game two the Saints used their bullpen to push to an 8-5 win over the Panthers. The Saints jumped to a two-run lead in the top of the first before South Florida got two runs back in the bottom of the second inning. A run in the fourth helped SF take a 3-2 lead. The Saints added two more runs in the top of the fifth to cling to a 5-2 lead. In the bottom of the sixth inning South Florida scored two runs, followed by a solo run to tie the game at 5-5 and send it to extra innings. In the tenth inning that Saints got a solo homerun from Ryan Chase to take the lead back before Erik Blair hits a two-run homerun to right field to extend the lead to 8-5.
The Saints were led by Javier Soto as he went 3-5, scoring two runs and driving two runs in. Soto was the first of three Saints to hit a homerun in the game. Chase and Blair came up clutch in the tenth inning both with homeruns to give the Saints the lead. Chase was the second Saint with multiple hits in the game.
The Saints are back in action on Tuesday afternoon when TNXL Academy comes to Gainesville for a 2:00 PM first pitch.
