Clermont, FL – Ellsworth Community College softball was split up with a 10-2 loss and a 6-4 win on Thursday. In the defeat, ECC committed six errors and tallied six hits. In the win, they had 11 knocks and the pitching staff struck out 11 batters.
The Panthers never trailed against Mid Michigan College. ECC scored the first six runs of the game and tallied 11 hits against the Lakers for the 6-4 victory. Mid Michigan did come back to score four in the sixth before ECC got out of the jam.
Eight different players had hits in the contest, led by Garstang, Alli Paulsen, and Arias all with two. Garstang and Taryn Petty both had doubles in the win.
Angelica Agro got the win in the circle and did so in a big way. The sophomore did not give up a hit and walked two, fanning 11 in the win. Her lone blemish in her seven innings was two walks, three runs (two earned). Hailey Shaeffer came in for relief.
The loss came against Lake-Sumter State College, 10-2. The Lakehawks scored seven runs in the second inning to pull away. Their 12 hits were helped by six ECC mishaps.
The two were knotted at 1-1 before L-SSC had their big inning. The pitching staff didn't do too badly for the Panthers, allowing 12 hits and walking just two. Julissia Arias takes to loss, throwing 1.2 innings and giving up seven hits, eight runs, five earned runs, walking two and striking out two.
Offensively, ECC had six hits by five different batters. Ella Garstang was the lone player to get two with a single and a double. Emmalee Bell, Arias, Avery Somers and Ainsley Brown had the other knocks.
The week long trip ends today (Friday) against SUNY Niagara and Triton College.
