Set Sweep for Pink Out Game

Snyder, TX - Western Texas volleyball (11-19, 3-10 WJCAC) won their Pink Out game against the New Mexico Junior Thunderbirds, (16-13, 6-7 WJCAC) on Tuesday, (25-19, 25-18, 25-23), 3-0.  

Western Texas volleyball held their Pink Out game on Wednesday evening with the staff, student sections and team wearing shirts that read "Strong". Westerners athletic recognized Breast Cancer Awareness Month with pink across the student section and team bench. For their game day attire, the squad wore pink jerseys as well. 

As for the matchup, the Thunderbirds entered Snyder, TX with six conference victories. The Lady Westerners came off a road win against Amarillo College in four sets on Saturday, November 26th. The two teams were evenly matched halfway through the first set, 12-12. The home team began to separate and won the first set, 25-19. Western Texas dominated the majority of the second half as the home side went up by ten points, 17-7. The Lady Westerners rode out the second set victory, 25-18. 

In an exciting finish, the Thunderbirds and Westerners faced off in a thrilling third set. The back and forth affair in the final set led to a nailbiter close. Western Texas managed to separate in the final points to end the matchup and sweep New Mexico Junior College. Anastasija Andjelic led her team in kills with ten and digs with 21. Zenaida Murrillo was second in digs with 17 and also recorded six assists. Addie Hernandez struck two service aces and Maja Ludyga also served an ace. The Westerners victory was their elevent on the season and third conference win. 

UP NEXT: Western Texas volleyball will play their final regular season game of the 2024 season on Saturday, November 2nd. The Lady Westerners will take on Clarendon at 2pm.
