CRESTON - The NIACC baseball team swept an ICCAC twinbill from Southwestern CC on Wednesday on the Southwestern CC campus.
NIACC (9-17 overall, 2-5 in the ICCAC) toppeed Southwestern CC 6-1 in the opener and completed the sweep with a 13-2 eight-inning win in the second game.
With the twinbill loss, Southwestern CC fell to 6-19 overall and 2-5 in the league.
In the first game, Trevor Hamil (2-1) gained the win for the Trojans by holding the Spartans scoreless for 5 1/3 innings. Hamil allowed three hits with a career-high seven strikeouts and one walk.
Hamil's previous career high strikeout total was six twice - against Neosho County CC (2-24-24) and Lincoln Trail College (2-28-25).
Jacob Crissinger pitched the final 1 2/3 for the Trojans in the opener allowing one run on one hit with two strikeouts and no walks.
Minchan Kim and Ryan Coffman both drove in two runs for the Trojans in the first-game victory. Payton Fort and Justyn Rivera both collected two hits.
In the second game, Ethan Loffer (2-2) gained the win on the mound for the Trojans. Loffer allowed two runs on four hits with four strikeouts and two walks in five innings of work.
NIACC's Alex Kronfeld tossed a scoreless inning of relief with two strikeouts and one walk and John Skoro threw the final two innings allowing no runs with two strikeouts and one free pass.
NIACC's Lincoln Becker hit two home runs, drove in three runs and scored three runs. It was first time a NIACC baseball player hit two home runs in a single game since Isaac Huettl against Iowa Central in the regional tournament on May 9, 2024.
Fort and Jacob Neutz both also homered for the Trojans in the second game. It is the first time the Trojans have hit four home runs in a game since hitting four against Marshalltown CC in the second game of a doubleheader on April 21, 2024.
Fort, Becker and Neutz all had two hits each for the Trojans.
The Trojans return to action Friday in an ICCAC twinbill at Marshalltown CC (7-15, 0-6). The first game on the Marshalltown CC campus is slated for 1 p.m.
