Landon Forbes was producing on both ends of the floor Wednesday night to lead the No. 11-ranked Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team to a Jayhawk Conference victory on Wednesday night against the Pratt Beavers.
Forbes had a game-high 18 points and added a career-high nine steals defensively as the Blue Dragons cruised to a season-sweep of Pratt after posing an 85-44 victory over the Beavers at the Sports Arena.
The Blue Dragons improved to 25-3 overall, reaching the 25-win mark in a season for the 18th time in program history. The Dragons stayed one-game behind first-place Dodge City with a 19-3 league record. Pratt fell to 8-20 overall and 3-19. The Blue Dragons have won 21 straight games against Pratt.
Hutchinson jumped out to a 9-0 lead, but the Beavers hit four consecutive 3-pointers to eventually tie the game at 12-12 in the first quarter. The Dragons answered the challenge with a 9-2 run over the final 5:34 of the quarter, then outscored Pratt 23-9 in the second quarter to grab full control of the game.
Forbes hit 7 of 9 total shots, which included two 3-pointers, to lead the Blue Dragons with her second-highest offensive output of the season. Defensively, Forbes' nine steals tied for fourth on the Blue Dragon single-game steals list.
Hailey Jackson became the 16th Blue Dragon player in history to reach the 500-point mark in a single season. Jackson had 12 points, hitting a pair of 3-pointers and just missed a double-double, finishing with eight rebounds.
Katie Duncan came off the bench to score 12 points and lead a 35-2 scoring advantage in points off the bench. Kahlen Norris had eight points, Honey Cooney scored seven points and Madi Denison, Jada Pleasant and Brynne Katcher had six points each.
The Blue Dragons shot 41.3 percent for the game (31 of 75), hitting 10 of 27 from 3-point range and 13 of 16 from the free-throw line. The Dragons had 20 assists and tied a season high with 21 steals.
Defensively, the Blue Dragons held Pratt to 29.5 percent (13 of 44), going 6 of 19 from 3-point range and 12 of 13 from the foul line. The Beavers had 29 turnovers.
La'Kyra Johnson had 15 points to lead the Beavers.
