Trojans Can't Match Inside Presence of Frank Phillips; Fall 92-69 at Home

TRINIDAD, Colo. – The Trinidad State College women's basketball team couldn't match the physical inside presence in a hard-fought 92-69 loss to Frank Phillips on Saturday afternoon inside Scott Gym.

Frank Phillips scored 62 of its 92 points inside the points and also capitalized on 26 points off turnovers to dominate the Trojans throughout.

The Trojans showed life in the second quarter where the team outscored FPC 19-17. The Trojans knocked down two three-balls in the quarter while forcing five turnovers.

The Plainswomen responded well coming out of halftime to hold on to a dominating 23-point victory.

FPC managed 52.2% shooting from the field which included 3 for 11 from three while the Trojans shot 37.9% from the field and knocked down 10 of 32 three balls.

Lani Albert-Neha (Fr., Hamilton, New Zealand) paced the Trojans with 23 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals while Candela Roy (Fr., La Muela, Spain) tallied a career-high 16 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 steals.

Hailey Apachito (So., Magdalena, N.M.) finished with 11 points with 2 three-pointers and 2 assists. 

The Trojans will be back in action on the road next Tuesday against Clarendon College. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 pm MST.
