Waterford, MI- Conference play is in full swing for the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) as the Oakland Community College softball team swept their most recent conference opponent in a double header yesterday, the St. Clair County Skippers.
OCC would go onto win game 1 of the contest 13-3, followed by another win in game 2 with a final score of 6-5. This currently puts the Owls record at 10-14 on the year overall, and 4-2 in conference.
The Owls got a big boost offensively in game 1 from Freshman Liz Pugh. Pugh contributed 5 RBI's to the contest, 4 of them coming from a game ending grand slam to left field in the 5th inning. Pugh also had a double on the day that plated 2 more runs, one coming on a throwing error. Freshman Elyssa Frezza had success in the circle as she picked up the win for the Owls with 5 innings of work while only allowing 3 runs, striking out 4 and walking one.
In game 2 the Owls broke out to a 5-1 lead in the bottom of the 3rd with the big hit coming from Freshman Katelynn Perry who delivered a double that drove in 2 runs. The Skippers would come back to tie things up in the top half of the 6th inning but the tie wouldn't last long however, as Freshman Mayson Scally would drive in the game winning and go ahead run with a double to the right field gap. Freshman Sierra Dorst picked up the win for the Owls as she pitched one and one-third innings of relief, while giving zero runs and striking out 2.
Softball will be back in action later this week as they'll travel up to Flint to take on the first place Mott Community College Bears on Friday, March 28th. First pitch is scheduled for 3pm.
