Seahawks Handle Middlesex in Season Opener
NORTH EAST - Cecil College women's basketball hit the floor for the first time in over 1,700 days, holding on for a 71-65 win over the Middlesex Colts.
The program last played back in 2019-20, when the Seahawks lost a Region 20 Division 2 quarterfinal game on March 5. Cecil's victory Tuesday evening is its first since February 22 of the same season.
Led by Kiara Brown's 23 points, Cecil led for the entirety of the contest. The freshman guard was flanked by 13-point performances from Jessie Ware and Talaysia Morgan. Both finished with double-doubles, as Ware tallied 10 assists while Morgan pulled down a dozen rebounds.
Cecil held a 36-24 lead over the Colts heading into the break. The Seahawks led by as many as 15 points late in the third, but Middlesex hung around and eventually pulled within three points with a minute to go. A Cecil turnover gave the Colts a chance to tie, but an offensive foul put the ball back in the hands of the Seahawks.
Middlesex was forced to foul Cecil late to stop the clock, but Brown knocked down four free throws to make them pay. A pair of late shots from the Colts fell flat to seal the victory for the Seahawks.
Box Score Highlights

- Jacelyn Perez and Aaliyah Henlon chipped in eight points each
