Cougars Sweeps MC Raptors on the Road
Frederick Community College softball bounced back in a big way on Saturday, sweeping their doubleheader against Montgomery College with a pair of high-scoring victories. The Cougars displayed offensive firepower from start to finish, racking up 30 runs and 32 hits across the two games to improve to 4-13 on the season and 3-5 in Region 20 Division II play.
In Game 1, Frederick set the tone early with a pair of first-inning runs and stayed aggressive throughout, ultimately pulling away late for an 11-6 win. Hailey Justice was steady in the circle, going the distance to earn her first win of the season while also adding three hits and three RBIs at the plate. Leo Cline led the offensive charge with three hits, including a solo home run in the sixth, while Kyleigh Hull added a four-hit performance and an inside-the-park home run to help seal the victory.
The momentum carried over into Game 2, where Frederick exploded for 19 runs on 17 hits, taking advantage of Montgomery's five errors to complete the sweep. A seven-run fourth inning proved to be the difference as the Cougars built a commanding lead and held off a late push by the Raptors. Cline had another standout game with a triple and a three-run homer, finishing with four RBIs. Ava Yockelson chipped in three hits and three RBIs, while Joelle Staub and Piper Barnes added multi-hit efforts to fuel the offense. Alondra Sidock and Justice combined in the circle to secure the 19-13 win in a game that saw both teams pile up 17 hits.
Frederick now looks to build on their strong weekend performance as they hit the road Monday, March 24, for a doubleheader against Penn State Mont Alto starting at 2 PM.
