Jacks Narrowly Miss Upset Win
A month earlier, Muskegon Community College beat ACC, 82-51 and looked invincible. In Park Arena on Saturday, it was a different story as the Lumberjacks lost a thriller, 75-72.
The Jayhawks led by as many as nine in the first half, at 21-12, but the Jacks rallied to get within two at the half, 38-36.
The second half was a different story as ACC led throughout, with seven point advantages at 64-57 and 67-60, the latter lead with just over six minutes left in the game.
Muskegon went on a 10-3 run to tie the game with 2:30 remaining and then buried a three-pointer with 1:42 to go for their first lead in the second half, 73-70.
After an ACC miss, the Jayhawks scored on a nifty backdoor cut to take a 75-70 lead with 58 seconds left. The Lumberjacks responded with Xavier Blumberg feeding Chas Stanek for a layup at the other end to make it again a one possession game with 45 seconds to play.
ACC's defense forced a Muskegon turnover, giving the Jacks the ball with 26 seconds to go, but the Jayhawks' defense forced Derian Williams to take a long three which hit off the rim as the buzzer sounded.
Derian Williams had an other incredible game for ACC, scoring 34 points. Stanek scored 15 and grabbed seven rebounds. Robert Williams had 12 points and seven rebounds.
Muskegon upped its record to 13-9 overall and 6-2 in the MCCAA North as ACC fell to 2-16, 1-8.
The Lumberjacks are back in action on Wednesday as they travel to Escanaba to face Bay College (18-5, 7-2).
