BASEBALL TAKES TWO FROM GLENDALE

Sam Round was dominant on the bump, as the starter rang up 11 strikeouts in the Pumas 12-1 victory over Glendale on Friday at home. Round surrendered five hits and one run over six innings while walking two.

The Pumas got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after the Gauchos committed an error, Alex Sanchez singled down the left field line, and Jackson Babione grounded into a fielder's choice, each scoring one run.

A single by Erick Dessens, a double by Sanchez, and a double by Babione helped the Pumas extend their early lead in the second.

Jared Swarbrick homered to left field, scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth for the Pumas. Three more Pumas runs crossed the plate in the sixth inning to extend the lead to 12-1. Babione singled, scoring one run, and Reilly Blake homered to right field, scoring two runs to secure the victory.

The Pumas tallied 12 hits in the game. Babione and Sanchez were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in three runs for the Pumas. Sanchez went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the team in hits. Matt Stewart and Andrew Armas each collected multiple hits, and the Pumas ran wild on the base paths, amassing three stolen bases for the game. Defensively, the Pumas didn't commit a single error in the field. Stewart had the most chances in the field with 11.

Saturday, March 1:  PVCC 5, GCC 1

Jared Swarbrick collected three hits in five at bats, as the Pumas defeated Glendale on Saturday. Swarbrick singled in the first inning, singled in the second inning, and singled in the sixth inning.

The Pumas opened the scoring in the first after Alex Sanchez singled, scoring one run. The Pumas added three runs in the second after Swarbrick singled to center field.

Owen Harper earned the win for the Pumas. The pitcher allowed four hits and one run over eight innings, striking out six and walking one. Dylan Droelle tossed one inning of no-run ball for the Pumas in relief. The hurler gave up zero hits, striking out one and walking one.

The Pumas collected 12 hits in the game. Swarbrick and Sanchez each collected three hits and Erick Dessens collected two hits in four at bats. The Pumas ran wild on the base paths, amassing four stolen bases for the game, Sanchez stole two bases. The Pumas didn't commit a single error in the field. Brock DeBattista had the most chances in the field with 12.

The Pumas next face GateWay Community College on Tuesday, March 4 at Gene Autry Park. First pitch is at 3:00pm.
