Wolves Escape Dolphins for Fifth Straight Win

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Co-Lin Men's Basketball team hit the road for their second game of the week facing off against Delgado on Wednesday, December 4. The Wolves overcame offensive struggles and edged out the Dolphins with a 49-46 win.

The Dolphins used an early 7-2 scoring run to hold the lead at that margin with just over 17 minutes to play. However, the Wolves responded with an 11-5 scoring run to take a 13-12 lead with 11 minutes remaining in the first half. The Dolphins then outscored the Wolves 11-10 throughout the remainder of the first half as the game was tied 23-23 when the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.

Both teams struggled offensively in the opening minutes of the second half scoring just two points each as the game remained tied at 25-25 with 14:54 left on the clock. The Dolphins then used a 9-2 scoring run to take a 34-27 lead over the Wolves with 9:53 remaining. The Wolves responded with a 15-12 scoring run to cut the Dolphins lead down to 46-42 with 2:28 left to play. The Wolves then tied the game with the next four unanswered points making the score 46-46 with 47 seconds left in the game. Prince Ojukwu (Etobicoke, Ontario) played hero for the Wolves as he drained a game-winning three-point basket with less than three seconds left, while the Dolphins got a chance to tie the game, the shot went wide as time expired to secure the 49-46 victory.

Deven Bates (Jackson) had a double-double performance for the Wolves leading all players in both scoring and rebounding at 19 and 14 respectively while Keisean Shields (Atoka, OK) had ten points off the bench. Prince Ojukwu had five points with Dakotah Hillard (Hazlehurst) and Demarion Terry (Edwards) had four points each. Fred Gray, Jr. (Belzoni) had three points while Chris Stephens, Jr. (Byram) and Javian Watkins (Jackson) had two points each to round out the scoring for the Wolves.

Co-Lin is now 6-4 overall and will return to action hosting Southern-Shreveport on Saturday, December 7. Tip-off between the Jaguars and the Wolves is set for Noon at Mullen Gym in Wesson.
