McLennan rolls by Cisco
A conference road-win over the Cisco Lady Wranglers was on the agenda for the 10th-ranked McLennan women defeated Cisco 53-37.
It was a low-scoring first quarter with McLennan taking control early. The squad opened on a 6-0 run with baskets by Amerie Flowers, Kennedi Ard and Hannah Mouton before a pair of Ta'Jae Willis free throws put Cisco on the board almost five minutes into the game, 6-2. McLennan built an eight-point lead at 12-4 but a last-second bucket by the Lady Wranglers' Gracie Oma made it a six-point lead after the first quarter, 12-6.
McLennan opened the second quarter on another a 7-0 run, including five points from Tajenae Gooden to go up 19-6 with 6:48 to play before the half. McLennan pushed the lead to 16, 24-8, with four minutes to go but Cisco rallied for a 6-0 run to end the frame and trim the lead to 10 at halftime, 24-14.
The teams battled in the third. Both struggled on the offensive end early in the frame but picked up the pace in the final five minutes, allowing McLennan to maintain its double-digit lead, 35-23.
McLennan stepped up in the fourth. Demetria Smith added a basket for Cisco early on but McLennan responded with an 8-0 run over the next three minutes to extended the lead to 18, 43-25, putting the game out of the Lady Wranglers' reach.
Tajenae Gooden led McLennan with 14 points. Hannan Mouton added 12 points, and Amerie Flowers scored 10.
