
Trojans take game three
Garden City, KS-Tyler Smith allowed only four hits, Caden Clifford knocked in three runs, and Colby took game three from Garden City, 10-3 Saturday afternoon at Williams Stadium.
Smith struck out seven for the Trojans, which improved to 11-10 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
Sean Philpotts went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI for the Broncbusters, which fell to 10-11 and 3-4 in the Jayhawk.
Garden City starter, Jackson Ray was roughed up to the tune of seven runs on eight hits in four innings. His toughest stretch came in the fourth, when he allowed the first five men to reach. Gavin Galenza hit a sacrifice fly, and Clifford clocked an RBI single, capping off a five-run inning that put Colby on top, 7-1.
In the sixth, the Trojans used some two-out magic to extend the lead. Clifford ripped a two-run double to right, and Josh Stark stroked an RBI base hit to right-center to make it 10-1.
The Broncbusters' only offense came when Cody Kilpatrick singled with two outs in the fourth. Sean Philpotts added an RBI double as part of a two-run seventh inning.
Brittain Brewer, who extended his hitting streak to five straight games, went 1-for-2 at the plate for Garden City.
