Highlanders & Leopards split series finale
The McLennan Highlanders and Temple Leopards split today's conference doubleheader in Temple.
Temple took today's opener 3-1 with Owen Egan taking the loss on the mound.
The Highlanders' only run would be a Cage McCloud solo home run to start the scoring in the second inning.
Temple tied the game with a run in the bottom of the third. Sage Sanders reached on an error but was out at second on a fielder's choice by Kolvin Davis. A fielder's choice by Lance Cantrell put Davis out at second. Andrew Erimis walked, and Kade Davis singled to score Cantrell.
The Leopards took the lead with two runs in the fifth. Kolvin Davis walked and advanced to third on a ground out by Cantrell. Ermis singled to score Kolvin Davis, and Davin Brazzle doubled to score Ermis.
In game two, the Highlanders picked up a 23-10 run-rule victory over the Leopards. Logan Harris got the win on the mound and Stevie Doty picked up the save.
The Highlanders score four runs in the top of the first. Spencer Butt walked and Daniel Harden reached on an error. Deiten Lachance followed with a three-run homer, and Ty Waid hit a solo home run.
McLennan added another run in the second. Butt singled and Harden walked. Lachance then singled to score Butt.
The Highlanders exploded for the nine runs in the third. AJ Goytia led off with a home run. Sherman Johnson walked and Marcus Smith followed with a two-run homer. Brody Chyr singled and Owen Egan walked. Butt then reached on an error, scoring Chyr. Harden walked, and Lachance singled to score Butt. Waid followed with a three-run homer.
Four more Highlander runs scored in the fourth. Butt singled and was replaced by pinch runner Brecken Menuet. Harden walked, and Lachance singled to score Menuet. Waid followed with a three-run homer.
Temple scored one run in the bottom of the fourth with a Kadyn Martinez home run.
McLennan added five runs in the fifth. Menuet walked and Harden was hit by the pitch, both advancing on a passed ball. Lachance singled to score Menuet, and Waid walked. Goytia also walked, scoring Harden. Pinch hitter Abdiel Hernandez-Sostre then singled to score Lachance, and Marcus Smith singled to score Waid and Goytia.
The Leopards scored nine in the bottom of the fifth. Kade Davis singled and Brazzle walked. Ryder Rutledge also singled. Hunter Baros reached on an error, scoring Kade Davis. Martinez then doubled to score Brazzle and Rutledge. Sanders walked, and Baros scored on a ground out by Kash Millar. Kolvin Davis and Cantrell both walked, scoring Martinez, and Kade Davis doubled to score Sanders and Kolvin Davis. Rutledge then singled to score Cantrell and Kade Davis.
