COLBY, Kan. - The Colby Community College women's basketball team won 65-59 over Seward County Community College to get 2025 started with a bang. The Trojans move their record to 10-5 overall and 5-4 in Jayhawk conference play. Playing their first game in 23 days, the Trojans found an early groove on their way to winning their fourth game in the last five games.
Colby jumped out to an early lead as their always-tough team defense set the tone, and the offensive flow showed up. Defensively, the Trojans were stingy and highly competitive, as the visitors had to go deep in the shot clock on their possessions. The offensive rhythm got going off early drives to the basket and open perimeter shots.
The game saw the Trojans build a 13-point lead at the half, only to see the visitors claw back to tie the game and take a one-point lead in the fourth quarter, only to see the Trojans build the lead back up to ten. Colby then made their late free throws to secure the victory.
"Watching our team get the offensive rhythm going early was exciting to see, after watching our ups and downs first semester. Defensively, we are usually solid, and that remains the same. We beat a scrappy, aggressive team who compete and make you execute. Happy for our players to see them pull together and come away with the win. Go Trojans." States Coach Spence.
The Trojans will travel to Dodge City to take on the Conquistadors on January 8th at 5:30 PM CT.
