RedTail Softball Rallies Late to Win Two

The RedTail Softball Team hosted Mount Mercy University JV at their home field in Hudson, Iowa. The RedTails swept the day, winning game one 9-6 and winning game two 7-6.
Game One: 9 (HCC), 6 (MMU)
A quick three up three down for the RedTails in the field gave them the chance to score first in the game. In the bottom of the first inning, Mya Chamberlin started with a single and advanced to second when Lizzy Hamand walked. Jordan Eads then singled to score Chamberlin.
The RedTails struck again in the bottom of the third. Chamberlin had another single and advanced to second on a Hamand fielder's choice. Chamberlin advanced to third on an Eads single and scored on a Dharma Woodruff single. Woodruff then stole second, drew the throw, and allowed Eads to cross home plate. Emilee Bergmann hit a single then to score Woodruff, giving the RedTails a 4-0 lead.
One run for the Mustangs came in the fifth inning, making it a 4-1 ball game.
Hawkeye added one more run in the bottom of the fifth. Barron started with a single and advanced to second when Rylie Devlin walked. Courtney Hemsley forced a Mustang error to score Barron.
Mount Mercy showed some fight and scored one run in the top of the sixth, making it a 5-2 game.
In the sixth, Chamberlin hit a double and Hamand walked to have runners at first and second. Woodruff put the ball in play to let another RedTail run cross, making the score 6-2.
The Mustangs made it a game by tying it up in the top of the seventh.
With the game on the line, the RedTails buckled down and fought. Bergmann forced a Mustang error and quickly stole second. Hemsley then hit a single to advance Bergmann. Lebo then stepped up to hit an in the park homerun to complete the game, giving the RedTails a 9-6 win.
At the plate, Chamberlin led the way going 3-4 with two runs scored. Seven other Redtails had hits in the game. On the mound, Chamberlin got the win, going all seven innings, giving up nine hits, six runs, five earned, two walks, and eight strikeouts.
Game Two: 7 (HCC), 6 (MMU)
Mount Mercy broke the game open in the top of the second scoring three runs.
In the bottom of the fourth, Hawkeye crossed the plate one time. Hailey Harbour was hit by a pitch and scored on a Hemsley double.
In the top of the fifth, the Mustangs added one more run, giving them a 4-1 advantage over the RedTails.
They added two more runs in the top of the sixth.
Down 6-1, the RedTails crawled their way back in. Chamberlin led off the inning with a double and Hemsley walked to put runners at first and second. Lebo hit a double to score both. Eads kept the game alive by walking, and Hamand hit a double to score both, making it a 6-5 game in favor of the Mustangs. A sacrifice fly by Adelyn Sienknecht scored Hamand, tying up the game. Barron then stepped up and hit a single, Harbour hit a single, and Devlin hit a single to score Barron, putting the RedTails up by one run.
Good defense and pitching shut down the Mustangs, giving the RedTails their second win of the day.
At the plate, nine RedTails had hits. Lebo and Hamand each had two runs batted in. On the mound, Sienknecht got the win, pitching two innings, giving up four hits, two earned runs, and one walk. Eads pitched five innings, giving up five hits, three earned runs, and no walks.
The RedTails move to 9-18 on the season. They start conference play on Friday, March 28th at home in Hudson, Iowa against #10 ranked Kirkwood Community College.
