JONES RECORDS DOUBLE-DOUBLE IN NORTHEAST DEFEAT TO NO. 25 ELLSWORTH

IOWA FALLS, Iowa – The Northeast Community College women's basketball team traveled to Iowa Falls, Iowa Wednesday night to take on No. 25 Ellsworth Community College. The Hawks fell to the national-ranked squad by a final score of 73-58.

Northeast (9-3, 2-2 ICCAC) pulled ahead early in the first half before falling behind in the second quarter. Aaliyah Jones (Rapid City, S.D.) tallied a double-double in the contest with 16 points and 10 rebounds while Merel Braakhuis (Manderveen, Netherlands) and Clara Garrote (Salamanca, Spain) recorded three steals each. The Hawks will now return home and will play in front of their home fans for the final time during the 2024 calendar year.

HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:

Head Women's Basketball Coach Matt Svehla on the night and looking ahead to the weekend:

"We had an okay first quarter, but we had a rough second," Svehla said. "We had breakdowns defensively and we did not find any offensive flow. We battled in the second half and played better, but it is a 40-minute game. We will need to clean some things up prior to our game against Iowa Western on Saturday."

UP NEXT:

The Hawks will host their final home contest of the semester in a battle with Iowa Western Community College at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.
