PUMA SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH GLENDALE, GETS FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON

Game 1: PVCC 0, GCC 6

The Pumas couldn't keep up with GCC and fell 6-0 on February 1 in game one of the double header.

The Gauchos got off to an early lead, scoring three runs in the bottom of the second inning and added three more runs in the fourth inning.

Angelina Mello took the loss for the Pumas. The hurler went six innings, surrendering six runs (three earned) on 11 hits, striking out none and walking one.

Kaitlyn Whaley led the Pumas with one hit in three at bats.

Game 2: PVCC 10, GCC 5

The Pumas trailed by as many as five, but came back to top GCC in game two of the double header, 10-5.

The Gauchos jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the third inning after a single scored two runs, an error scored two runs, and another single scored one run.

The Pumas flipped the game on its head in the top of the fifth, scoring nine runs on five hits to take the lead, 10-5. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Paige Ginsberg that drove in two.

Brianna Sanchez earned the win for the Pumas. The hurler surrendered seven hits and five runs (three earned) over seven innings, striking out three and walking two.

The Pumas collected 11 hits in the game. Jacie Fink went 3-4 at the plate to lead the Pumas in hits. Emily Quigg and Ginsberg each drove in two runs for the team, and Jalyssa Vasquez collected two hits for in two at bats. The Pumas had patience at the plate, collecting four walks for the game. Kaitlyn Whaley and Cami Britton led the team with two bases on balls each. The Pumas turned three double plays in the game.

Next up for the Pumas is a doubleheader at Scottsdale Community College on Tuesday, first pitch is at 4:00pm.
